![]() ![]() I may be wrong but I still think there's a good possiblity that he's a Golden zebra Loach (botia histrionica). So I decided to take a chance on this little one and brought him home yesterday, photo's below. Lol, so I'm stuck with the question of can YoYo's have the Y pattern but be missing all the O's? So I ask if he was at all familiar with what the pattern of a YoYo is compared to the pattern of the gold zebra? His reply was basically "if you want the fish I can catch it for you" I called over the salesperson and asked if he thought this could possibly be a mixup and he responded quite passionately, almost seemed offended by the question, he insisted that "if it is in the YoYo tank it was definitely a YoYo." I explained the other scenarios I encountered with in which the store was aware of the mix up, but he just stood firm and insisted and became more defensive about it making up some nonsense accusations about the other stores either not knowing what they're talking about or not wanting to sell me fish. But the more I observed it the more I felt this was not a YoYo at all but in fact a Gold Zebra. ![]() I should have snapped a photo of it, perhaps if I return there today I will. However there was this one with distinctly marked Y Y Y pattern but no O's at all. So the reason I posted this question was because yesterday I was at another store that had a tank with YoYo Loaches. I do realize (thanks to the great folks at fishlore from whom I've learned so much) that there is is a difference between Zebra Loaches and Gold Zebra Loaches, aka botia histrionica, and that is the species I am referring to when I mention zebra Loaches in this post. Just edited / corrected the title of this post from zebra Loach to Gold zebra Loach. Long story, but after a pleasant conversation with this man about how these were actually 2 different species that would be happier with their own kind, we each happily left with 2 of each of the fish we wanted. I go over and look and immediately spot 2 Golden zebra Loaches. Me: (knowing that this chain store is mixing YoYo's with gold Zebras) I ask "do you have any YoYo's?" The patiently waiting gentleman overhears me, he turns and points and says "there's some in this tank". I walk in and ask if they had any Golden zebra Loaches, the salesperson diligently searches high and low through every tank and finally gives up and says "sorry there are none left". But in fact he would have unknowingly bought 2 of one and 1 of the other. The other 4 either had no gold zebras OR had ordered Zebras and not received them OR just had YoYo Loaches.Ģ) there was another gentleman already there, patiently waiting to buy 3 of what he assumed were YoYo's. I did not complain about being charged YoYo price's for my gold Zebra Loaches (at the store with 2x YoYo's and 2x zebras in same tank) because ġ) it was the 5th LFS I traveled to at the end of a long hot day, and I had just about give up. ![]() One of the LFS I visited nearest to my home sells the Golden zebra Loach for about $4.39 while the store I traveled to sells the YoYo Loach for about $5.99 (see photos below). Click to expand.Ahh, glad that you mentioned this. ![]()
